Curl Crush™ Defining Gel is made from 99.8% natural ingredients, free from sulfates, silicones, drying alcohols, parabens, and mineral oil. That makes it Curly Girl method-approved and suitable for all curl types.
How it works
Curl Crush™ Defining Gel is our signature hair gel for curly hair. Unlike many other hair gels, it actually adds moisture to the hair, thanks to the addition of Aquaxyl™, a patented sugar-derived hydration complex, plant-derived glycerin, and organic aloe vera. In addition, various antioxidant packed, organic botanical extracts, including bamboo, ginger root, acai fruit, and pomegranate, nourish and protect depleted curls and imbue them with shine.
But what makes this curl defining gel special is heat protective SymHair® Thermo, which is derived from Polyporus mushroom, hyaluronic acid, and fructose. SymHair® Thermo forms a film on the hair’s surface that protects it from heat damage and frizz-inducing humidity. That is our secret to perfectly styled and frizz-free curls.

How to use
Apply a small amount of Curl Crush™ Defining Gel throughout clean, damp hair, from roots to ends. Scrunch or finger coil hair. Use a hair dryer with a diffuser attachment to dry, or allow hair to air dry. Once dry, gently scrunch hair to break the gel cast.

Curl Crush™ Defining Gel and Cream are both curl styling products that give hair definition and hold while hydrating and nourishing dry curls.
However, there are a few differences between them. Curl Crush™ Defining Cream’s primary purpose is nourishing and hydrating dry curls, while giving them definition. Therefore, it provides a lighter and softer hold than our gel. On the other hand, our gel provides a stronger hold, shine, and protects hair from heat damage while still moisturizing.
Choosing the right curl styling product depends on your preferences and goals. You could even try layering them for the best of both worlds!

How do you use curl gel?
Curl defining gel is the last step in a curl styling routine. It ensures that your curls maintain their shape while locking in hydration and protecting against frizz and heat.
- Wash and condition hair using products specifically formulated for curly hair, like Curl Crush™ Duo.
- Use a gentle hair towel to squeeze extra moisture from hair.
- Smooth a dime-size amount of curl defining gel onto hair from roots to ends. Keep your hands flat instead of raking them through your hair to keep your curls defined.
- Dry your hair with a diffuser or let it air dry.
- Once completely dry, gently scrunch the hair to break the gel cast. This step will make your hair soft to the touch while maintaining a flexible hold and keeping frizz at bay.

Why does the product leave hair crunchy?
This is completely intentional! A curl gel will always leave a cast on your hair when it dries. The cast ensures that your curls maintain their shape while they are drying. Once your hair is fully dry, scrunch out the cast gently by squeezing your hair. This way, your curls will maintain their shape but look and feel softer and more natural.
